ozrivera, can you tell me how you rivet or secured those bands?

Also when polished your drum shells out, can you give me some ideals and pointers on what you did? I'm going thru the same thing on two old gonbop shells and have my final coat of clear applied to one of the shells and would like to polish this out after awaiting for this to fully dry.

Be careful the finish should be fully cured before you polish it.
A dry finish does not necessarily means that is cured. If you
are using a waterbased finish it may take several weeks before
is fully cured. Oil based finishes usually cure faster. Make sure
you read the label. Take Care!

the shell sat for months before i even polished them. i was actually doing 4 of them at the same time and by the time i sprayed them i was just tired of sanding. so they sat for some time while i worked on the hardware.

My bad, didnt see your post earlier.the polishing process can be a bit tricky. first you have to make sure that you have a thick coat of whatever clear you used.
at least 5 coats. once its cured, wet sand lightly sarting with a 800 grid then 1200, 1500, and 2000. be extremely carefull not to oversand. even though the grid of the sand paper is really fine you can still sand all the way to the wood. sand lightly and evenly keeping the finish and sand paper wet. when youre doing it right you should see the water turn to a milky type of substance. once your completed wipe clean, and the entire surface should be cloudy but very smooth to the touch and feel.
use a car polishing compound and an orbital buffer to polish. aplying the polish and continue to buff till you see the shine. you may have to repeat this step. you should see luster the equivalent of a grand piano. it should be really shiny and smooth.
i fanstened the bands with small screws. but if this is for your gon bops, gon bops use tacks.
hope this helps
