Help me identify this conga?!

Postby JonSinger » Mon Jan 19, 2009 7:41 pm

Hi -

I acquired this drum a few years ago in Boston, MA.
I'm looking to sell it (in Brooklyn, NY, if anyone's interested) ...
but first wondering if anyone here might have any information on such a drum?
The playing surface is 10" -- I acquired it along with a vintage Gon Bop quinto.
There are 6 small holes in a vertical line on one side (maybe for a handle?)

Any thoughts? Ideas about value?
Please let me know - any help would be appreciated!

Mexican, likely from the 60's-70s - typical profile, side plates, lugs, crown loops, etc. Hard to tell what the wood is, but might be a step above the usual. These drums aren't that great (or rare), to be honest - they sell for $50-$75 in decent shape.

That drum looks like it was made of mahogany, with a lighter crown, overall change of hardware and good skin, it may not sound that bad.

I agree with all of my conga brothers. The drum posseses all of the characteristics of a South of the Border beautie, Mexico that is, not an expensive drum
