Colombo congas

Does any one have an idea or own a set of this congas ? Colombo congas , made in Argentina.
I would like to know what kind of wood was or is used to make this congas, here is a pic. but they have been painted black.

The stand looks fairly low grade/weak, the congas dont seem too bad as bashers if at a decent price Im guessing? These are the ones off Craiglist yeh?
Couldnt find much on google either...

Columbo congas have been around since the early 70's and come from Argentina...here is Daniel Mele with his 15 Colombo conga/bongo set up..now this is different

JC, I know they have been around for a while, never had the chance to play a set. I was just wondering if they would be worth the time.
15 congas i don't know if it was the recording , but some of them sound like basketballs... a lot of ringing. He sounds like a trap set drummer playing congas. I guess if you can't sound big, might as well look big.

I had Colombo congas back in the 70's. They are Argentinian. They sounded good on account the heads were mule. I 've never seen Colombos look like the ones you have. This is what they looked like back in the 70's.

I have owned a Colombo Conga for well over 10 years, and I really enjoy playing it. Below is the address of the artisan who makes these drums. He has no email or website I am told, so mail will be the only way to contact him. Your Colombos are much different from mine, including the absence of the distinctive Colombo-style hardware. The rims on mine are an early form of "comfort rim", whereas yours appear to have a more traditional style. Check out the pics attached and you'll see what I mean. I don't own this congas, someone is selling them locally and I was interested in purchasing them to refurbish them and put them on the market again. Something I did notice is that the hardware looks more like Toca hardware. I guess I have to look at 'em up close. And what could a set of this drums go for?

Oddly enough, I purchased my Colombo over 10 years ago while on vacation in Florida from the Canadian winter. I picked it up at "The Big Top" flea market outside Tampa Florida from a vendor selling all sorts of musical instruments. I paid under $50.00 for the drum and it has been worth every penny.

As far as the drums you are looking at, they appear to have had different hardware installed and may or may not have the original mule skin heads. They probably have been repainted as well, so other than the wood shell and any logo badging, they obviously are not in the same league as an original Colombo.

Personally, I would steer clear of these congas as they have already been altered from original unless the price is such that you can't pass them up. Again, it's tough to make a call on these without seeing them up close and personal. Does the logo on these drums resemble the logo on the drum pics I posted?

By the way, if you do decide to purchase these drums, the hardware and rims for these drums have changed little over the years and replacement parts (as far as I know) are still available from Juan Colombo at the address mentioned in my last post.
