I'm also wondering if the new location is going to cause a great increase in cost due to shipping, or even if Customs rules could make it hard to get Isla's drums (or certain woods)

Plus, I wonder what woods Isla's will become available in?

Anyone have any more info on Isla?

Just call Mario.

I did, just got off the phone.

He will be going to Belize, Honduras. He said that Cherry wasn't going to be available anymore, either-- after the move at least. However, he did indicate that a guy could probably send down some wood to him if they had to have a certain type. For instance, I still need to finish off my set of Cherry bata's (only have the smallest size), and he indicated we could probably still do that if I could send him the wood (with the specs he needs).

He also indicated that there are several Honduran woods that will be available. I am licking my lips!

The shipping/importing costs WILL increase the costs of the congas to U.S. buyers. If price is an issue, then this would be a great time to get some if you can get an order in (not sure). I can't buy right now personally, so I will have to wait. But who knows, maybe some beautiful woods will be available when the time comes.

Man all of you spilled the soup !.......haahhaaahaaaaa...
But Isla's new line will be havely!!! sought after. Exotic woods...
that have become impossible to get lately. And had not been available to Conga players for a long time.

The exotic wood the great conga makers, managed to get in the States, years ago, that have now become nearly impossible to pass trough.

I just see Mario being really....really busy after the new line hits.. After people flip out seeing what's to come from Isla.

I have LP Giovanni ash congas, and Isla congas sound ABSOLUTELY NOTHING like them. The Isla's have a very rich, loud, dry afro-cuban sound.

Me, too, my mouth is drooling! Could Honduran Mahogany, which Junior used to use before their importation to the U.S. was stopped, be one of them? Hmmm, I wonder....

bit of a side track, non topic related, but while on the topic of Palladiums and Gio's Galaxy,

I endorsed Palladiums for over 12 months when they first came out before exchanging them on Classics and Giovanni galaxy (wood) for the last 2 years of the endorsement, and it took a while before I got the hang of getting the Palladium super tumba to sound right. It took a fair while of practice on the tuning system due to additional extra lugs etc to get it right, but once I got it right, damn did it sound good!
I have video clips on my youtube page where you can hear both my 3 Palladiums i had at the time and my current set of mixed LP Classic and LP Gio galaxy wood with mule skin fitted.
The LP Gio with mule skin sounds spectacular and many percussionists, both local as well as international have had positive comments on it.

My videos page on youtube is here and you can see/hear how that Gio sounds, as well as the Palladiums in the live tv gig: http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=Masula123&view=videos

Still, having said, I cant wait till the day I have in my possesion a complete set of 4-5 Matthew Smith hand made African Mahogany congas.
