The bottom line is that we are all entitled to post our opinions. There is no need for pics to be posted. Some of the problems are real and factual some may not be. But there are definitely issues to be looked at. This is not to trash Isla or Mario this is in fact an open forum for it's members to express themselves. As long as there are no direct insults etc. There is nothing wrong with posting these types of thing regardless of the manufacturer Isla,Ritmo,LP,SOS,Meinl,Remo, I don't care who makes it we all have the right to give our opinions good and bad.

And mine would be that anyone seeking information/opinion on Isla congas will not see them well represented in this thread. Ironically, it is those who are seeking to promote them here that have done Isla a disservice, and Mario no favours - not the critics IMO.

I AM AND HAVE BEEN A STRONG SUPPORTER OF ISLA PERCUSSIONS. BUT, I AM ALSO, A MUCH STAUNCHER VOICE FOR FAIRNESS. I DO TALK TO MARIO VERY OFTEN INFACT, WE HAVE SPOKEN ABOUT THIS VERY THREAD, AND WEATHER IT MAY BE HIPPOCRITICAL, OR NOT. HE SAID THAT ALL OF IT IS GOOD, AND NECESSARY. MAYBE WHAT THIS THREAD NEEDS IS FOR MARIO HIMSELF, TO STEP UP TO THE PLATE AND SAY THAT HERE AS WELL. REMEMBER IF A PRODUCT IS NOT SPOKEN OF, IT WILL BE FORGOTTEN. SO THIS, WEATHER YOU THINK SO OR NOT, IS EXCELLENT PUBLICITY, FOR THIS FINE YOUNG COMPANY.

With respect Vinnie, that's not going to stop me asking him to respect the normal manners and etiquette that seem to be perfectly acceptable to everyone else.

Just to note that Mario has a requinto for sale on eBay at the moment, and, in spite all of the "controversy" and alleged slandering here, he indicated in the description that congaplace.com is a good site to learn more about his drums. Guess his skin's a little thicker and his perspective is a little broader than many here give him credit for.

search for requinto, this one is a cool blue color.
Very pretty little drum.
The drum I've ordered is also a requinto, in cherry wood,
without bands and a handle. Custom height at 30" vs. 31" standard.

I just wanted everybody to check this out. Here is new video of ISLA drums being played in cuba by cubans. Mario at ISLA said after a the trip they got an endorsement from Los Rumberos de Cuba as well as many others on the island. Isla drums are now Cuban!

Note: these are new drums and have yet to be broken in.

Check out the vid.

Isla gave them an endorsement i think you mean, no the other way around. Well deserved too.
In Cuba they cannot get their hands on quality steel etc as on offer with fabricators outside of Cuba.
Not to take anything away from Isla, but your average Cuban rumbero will take anything free due to the unfortunate economic condition etc, hell, most of us would. Good to see Isla supporting true rumberos. But Isla is not Cuban simply because their drums are being played in Cuba.
