Hello
I have the same stands that ABAKUA has but for the seated player. Great stands but way, way, way, to heavy. Here is a stand by Gibraltar that one of my students came to one of my drum parties with and I was surprised how light , sturdy, and at around 50.00 each . This is a very high quality stand. We were using some LP congas and they did not move. GCS-LSP Low Seated Single or > GCS-M / GCS-L Single Stands if you play standing. I will be getting 4 of them in the near future to save my back. Just another option.

I have these Gibraltar stands and you can also use them playing seated simply by removing the extended legs and installing the short legs (also with rubber feet) that come standard.

I love these stands! They're heavy-duty but aren't too heavy to carry.

Check out this new stand from Toca Percussion! I was just browing Toca's website. It looks quite attractive and relatively light.

Toca calls it the Conga Barrel with Collapsible Legs. Designwise, it appears to be a combination or hybrid of the LP Collapsible Conga Cradle Stand and the Gibraltar GCS-M/GCS-L Single Stand.

According to Toca's website http://www.tocapercussion.com/product/s ... llaps.html, it "Fits ALL size Congas and larger Djembe drums". It retails for $195 (street price should be in the low $100) and became available only last March 2009.

The photo that Manny posted above is what I was referring to when I mentioned "Gibraltar cradles", not the DW rack that someone else posted. The Gibraltar cradle (maybe called a "basket" stand?) is very sturdy. I love mine that I have for my tumba. They have a couple sizes on these stands. Biggest drawback is that they don't collapse compactly for transport or storage. At least not without dismantling it.

Bachikaze,

I really don't know 'cause I haven't actually seen one up close in person. But, just based on the picture alone, it looks kinda flimsy.

Remember, not only are congas relatively heavy--about 30 lbs each--but they get pounded when played thus effectively adding weight to the congas and subjecting the stands to even more stress.

Generally, you get what you pay for.

Good luck,

I like to play standing, and I like the basket stands for the height adjustability.

One type though has tubular legs with one inside the other, and a single bolt to fix the height - the legs can vibrate against each other and make an annoying buzzing noise while you play - like this one from Tycoon:

I like the Gon Bops type better - it has flat legs that are bolted together in two places and don't buzz:

Check out the Meinl Steelys - they´re gorgeous. :)
Especially when you consider the price.
Very solid and stable.

I never liked the basket type stands because they take up more room. With 2 congas, I always prefer the LP double conga stand on wheels. which holds the congas at the same height & angle each time, nothing to adjust. I was just at PASIC in Indiana & noticed Pearl's version of the LP basket stand....much better design for adjusting the heights/angles.
Most of the time in NYC, when congas are rented, I always end up with the LP basket type which I have hassle with to get the drums at the same height....I always bring my own wrench to deal with that. This is where those Pearl stands ( I just realized it's called the Pearl Conga Kick Stand ) have the edge for adjustments...check them out. BTW...I was playing congas for Aretha Franklin at the 25th Anniversary Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Concert last month...it's on HBO now. Typical LP rented stuff on those basket stands.
For sitting, I usually just build my own stands out of wood so they're off the floor a few inches.....they just sit flat & not secured, so you can run up to them & kick them over if you have nothing better to do.
