Wow that tub be looking goooooood, Great job, can't wait to see the finished product. What stain is that? and is that a Conga or a Tumba? What type of skin will you put on it?
That stain is called Early American and the Drum is a Tumba the Conga is almost finished. For now I will use synthetic heads that I already have laying around but they will have good skins put on in the near future.
I can't believe it, you just got them a few hours ago. You and Steven (Salsero Boricua) are the Latino Van Goghs of the jicamo. That tub looks incredible. Please describe what you did. Did you use stripper or just a sander? Bro, you just got them a few hours ago. Incredible. De pin.. el caso. Ñooooo!
95% of the work was done with a random orbit sander with only a small amount of stripper used. I used some stripper because there weres ome incredibly stubborn spots and i was afraid i was going to sand a flat spot in the shell if i went at those areas too much with the sand paper so i used a small amount of stripper for a very short period of time. The shell was then prepped with 120 grit sand paper then 220 grit then steel wool was used to finish smoothing the shell. The stain was applied and allowed to dry then polyurethane was brush on with steel wool sanding in between coats of polyurethane. I was not after a super thick and shiny finish and i believe I acclomplished my objective.
Gracias hermano im glad to bring these congas back to glory and im happy you like the way they came out. These drums will always remain in my arsenal i don't think i could ever part with them since i got them from you and then i put some hours into restoring them.
