Would anyone else be into the idea of a video 'section' rather than thread ? Each video of interest could have it's own heading and resulting conversation thread, all i ever do with this method is catch the last one or two that have been added, does anyone really go back through 66 pages to look for posted items ? I know there is a wealth of amazing footage contained in there but it's just getting lost in my opinion.

Just a thought,

I agree on a Video Section with ability to differentiate threads.

Sounds like a good idea.

I think the software allows room for another section to be created. I'll look into that and should be able to create it.

So what we could do, is have within Open Discussion section, a discussion forum for all vids (like the one for your own personal photos and videos)
I can create it and have sub forums, where for expample you could have:

VIDEOS SECTION:

Miguel 'Anga' Diaz videos - Post all Anga video clips here
Giovanni Hidalgo videos - Post all Giovanni video clips here
Tata Guines videos - Post all Tata video clips here
Afro Cuban Folklorical Groups videos - Post all ....etc etc
Pedrito Martinez videos - Post all.. etc etc
and so forth with other artists, each with their own single thread.
Miscellaneous - If your clip does not fit in any of the above, please post here. (miscellaneous clips)

One thread per artist, where all vids of that artist go into, otherwise if you have thread after thread on the same artist it becomes too difficult to keep track of whats new, or where that video of that artist is etc different videos of the same artist in mmultiple threads will make too hard to view.
If we can stick to this format it should be good.

Your thoughts?

I think in addition to artists categories, and rather than just placing everything else in a "miscellaneous" category,
there should be culture and-or country-region specific categories (and the ability to add new ones),
such as: Brazil, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Haiti, Jamaica, Africa, etc. (you name it)

In addition, maybe you could have categories for concert clips, and movie clips.

Categorizing the non-big star footage in this way would enable folks to find clips from their areas of interest. There is a lot of good clips of amateurs, street performers, village ensembles, and all manner of other stuff, which would fill up the "miscellaneous" category pretty quickly and end up with the same problem...lots of pages of clips of miscellaneous stuff.

Good design from the start, and the ability to add specific categories, would facilitate searching back through all those videos, or to go right to one's area of interest.

The following categories would be at the top of my to have list:

1. Instructional

2. Rumba

3.Solo's (Conga, Timbales, bongo)

I'll take what ever you come up with, any kind of breakdown and organization is going to be an improvement on the current system although I would probably just call a section 'videos' and let people post each video with it's own heading other than some obvious sections like big name players, Rumba etc. It takes no more space to post individually. Repetition of postings over time is inevitable with people coming and going and might even be a good thing when things get too far back, in my opinion of course.

Barrie has a point, but I like the idea of having a few sections.
If we just let it go with everyone making a thread however they desire, then it would just be this one big long thread like the one we have now where everything eventually gets too large to peruse.
I'd like to see
1. instructional,
2. folkloric,
3. contemporary (that would include Salsa, and Latin Jazz, rock, etc), and
4. solos..
The regional idea was a good one, but I think this one makes more sense. It's smaller and easier to make a discernible separation.
We could sub-categorize the folkloric and contemporary into regions if we have enough videos from the various regions..
But, I can't say I've seen very much on this list of West African, Haitiano, Brazilian, and Bomba, though I know they're out there in a big way.

I think this would work well. Avoid complications and debates by keeping only a few broad categories. Move clips after they have been posted if they seem in the wrong place.

I second (or third, or whatever) the broad categories idea, I see no need to get carried away with the subforums.

I agree with all the above. The "regional" idea was just off the top of my head, but is probably more suited as sub-categories to "folkloric".

1) Big name brand Players
2) Instructional
3) Folkloric, traditional...includes various genres( e.g. rumba, Puerto Rican Bomba, etc) with possibility of regional subcategories
3) Comtemporary
4) Solos
5) Miscellaneous

I absolutely agree that some categorization would be a very good feature. I do watch the current clips, but it's too complicated to go back and look at the older clips from the time before I joined. If there would be categories, that would make it easier. There could also be separate two threads for bongo and timbales stuff.

would a category titled "documentaries" be suitable for this ? maybe that falls under 'educational'...
