I always get burned for saying that but they are my favorite to watch. I think they are a complete package they can dance, sing, make you laugh, or whatever. They also play son and are very creative and that's on top of the great swing that their guaguanco has. I'm not taking anything away from the other groups including munequitos but as far as showmanship I think they got the edge. Now to listen to I think its just a matter of mood for me.

Thanks for sharing Akdom. May I ask, is that charts in front of you? If so, why do you use charts? Is it a new song you have not yet learnt? Just curious, not trying to offend.
Did you see my video? Thats my new band I was telling you about a while ago which I am now co-directing :)

Hi, yes I saw all your videos!

And yes, it is a chart. In fact, I sing on most of the songs and this day we had a 3h30 gig including many new songs. If I do not have the lyrics, I tend to get lost.. Or maybe it is just confidence. I know it looks ugly, blocks the view and doesn't look pro, but I still need it.

It would be interested to have other people input on that. Maybe in another thread.

Hey akdom, niece work. I enjoyed your video. Wish the volume was higher on you but, could just make-out what you were playing. Why do sound guys always have to short change the conguero? Anyway, niece steady groove, and relayed. You looked good up there. As for the charts, I always thought they made a band look more professional. Niece band you have. Feel blessed to be a part of it and enjoy the ride.

Los Papines is a favorite of mine also, but I think they created a special niche for themselves in the tourist industry. The little folkloric stuff I've seen from them can not compare to groups like Munequitos. They are great showman for sure, but
its unfair to compare other groups to them.

Here's a couple of Latin Jazz Vids, as I happen to be in that type of mood a lot these days.

Hi quinto

Thanks for the kind words

I agree, sound guys tend to forget that percussionists are "real musicians". But the video quality sucks. It was shot with my camera.. I have 45 minutes of this concert in good quality. Once edited I will post it here. And actually, the sound was very good on stage and for the public too.

And YES, I am proud to be part of the largest latin band of the south of France (9 pieces).

Thanks again.

Here is a clip from a gig in March with my new 10 piece band which I co-direct.

************ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LOQyydeVyqg **************

Jose (Tonio) takes a Timbales solo. (Same Jose/Tonio from my previous clip/post where he takes a conga solo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ErcFw9XWEWw)
Myself on Congas, horn section is Bob, Marcus & Rob, Peter Guarino on Baby Bass, Sarmen on Piano, Julio "Candela" on Bongo, Robert on backing vox & Gonzalo Porta lead Vocalist. Footage from SALSOTECA / LATINO WHITE PARTY 2009 @ HOME NIGHTCLUB, SYDNEY AUSTRALIA. (March 2009)
Apologies for the low quality footage, was taken with low megapixel digital camera and the sound was, to put it nicely, not the best we've had. Hope you enjoy it. :)

Marcelo, I really like what you do, your shifting of the tumbao and clean down beats on the high drum. The Timbale guy is tremendous and the horns seem to have a real good sense of timing. And it looks like a fabulous time! Thanks! Inspiration. :!:

Thanks for the kind comments. :) Yeh Tonio is great, he plays awesome kit also and is a mean conguero as well, we are long time friends. Thats him in that conga solo video I have which is sideways in my youtube channel.
I will soon do a rumba video to upload...
