Congrats, bongotombs..it probabbly felt like the best gift you have gotten in the mail, this year...because sometimes only bills come in...l.o.l
When you are able to tune that requinto , is gonna blow your mind!
That thing is gonna bark like it was brought out of Cuba, made by a Rumbero.
You are gonna love it...i love mine.

There is nothing in the world like that Requinto.

Congrats on the beautiful drum BNB , love the stainless steel look of the hardware.
The only thing that I can just get over is the handle and not just on your conga , but on all congas. I personally feel that handles are for suitcases, doors and conga bags. :?

No worries man, I know handles aren't for everybody, I like them and find them useful.
Mario told me most of his customers felt the same way as you do, so he stopped making them, mine was
special order.

That super-quinto looks very distinguished and old school with that handle, very cool indeed.
I have one too but in canoe wood with the steel bands. Congratulations And Enjoy!

The drop on the quinto went away,i made it. You have to tune it, leave it a little tuned, it gets flat.
The thing is that those skins are something special, very ,very strong.

Yeah the droop gets much less after I tune it up. Not 100% yet but mostly gone.
Once it gets broken in more I'm sure it will be gone totally. It doesn't bother me, if it does
I know how to get rid of it, but I think it will be totally gone after a couple of weeks.

Yes is something superficial, that goes away after tuning it high. It has is trick to skin a drum the right wa-"Tiene su maña" poner cueros en una conga correctamente, and those skins being really thick and strong makes sence it has swag to it.

That is the method that will take some time to get totally flat, it also takes braking in.
There is other faster methods that Bongotoms refer as to, getting ride of the swagg.
Is nothing major is superficial to me, but when someone that dosn't focus on tone quality looks at it, their first reaction is like "what the heck".

I have a friend that came over my house, i was excited to show him my Congas, specially Isla Perc.
That was his immidiate reaction after taping the drum.

When he heard the tones out of it, he was amaized, that little drum could sound so good.
I am so delighted by that little one.

As Marco mention his tumba is not totally flat yet, and Bongotombs requinto is not totally flat ither.

I know it takes patients  , sometimes i had to ignore it, because it sounds so good.
It takes patient brothers i know..is hard i been there.

But i am excited for bongotoms getting his, by the way i want to know what you think of the bark, when hitting the open tones, or that slap.

For anyone that likes Rumba, this little drum is a treasure. For me it was, i stop playing mine at 2:00am yesterday. I couldn't stop.

I would also like to know how the Resolution requinto sounds, when i see a quinto, or requinto i fell like it calls me to play it....l.o.l ...

Very nice! Enjoy!!!
I like the idea of the handle on a superquinto.. They're so small, you might as well carry it like a suitcase!

Got to play BnB's new Isla requinto last night at Sandy Perez' new class in SF. Very impressed - super sweet little drum. Nice open tones with no ringing, easy, clean and sharp slaps, and muffs with some meat and depth to them. Looks great, too. Dig the new crown loop style.

Great buy, Geordie!

James

PS. Once tuned up the sag on the head is negligible.

After admiring BNB's new requinto for a few weeks - I called Mario today.
I should have my requinto in a month or so!

It's my first requinto ever and I'm excited about increasing my solo abilities in rumba.

It's a great little drum Mike. Your gonna be surprised how little the head on these things are.
So cool.

My last Isla requinto had to be sent back. Somehow it developed a crack. Whether it was from
the shipping or a defect in the wood that was undetectable it is hard to say. I can say that due to
the nature of the crack it was unlikely to be the workmanship.

The crack went diagonally across the top of a stave, up at the bearing edge, from the inside corner to the outside.
Mario described it as a fissure. Anyways, Mario graciously built me another drum, at no charge to me. This drum is also
cherry wood, even though the color is dramatically different from the last one.

If anything this drum is better than the last. It looks like Mario is continously evolving his style, adding small details
and improvements. Oh, and this little drum screams like you can't believe. Truly what a requinto should sound like.

I for one am sad that he is leaving California. It was nice having a local drum maker like him around. His brother Pili said these,
may be the last drums built by Mario himself. He is going to restructure his operations when he moves to Belize. He will however
have access to Honduran mahogany.
