wow sorry to see that. Is that the cast to make the mold or the fiberglass shell itself? Is it possible to use a mold and mildew cleaner such as those used in bathrooms?

Hi Vinniel,

It's the cast to make the mold, not the fiberglass it self. It could be OK if I made the mold without waiting, but, I have let this project few weeks and I pay it now !!!

I think wax lock the humidity of the plaster and moisture appears.

It's not very bad but I have to re-do it. The good point is that I have learn something !!!

Cheers !

Wow it's really too bad i can only imagine how much work goes into making that cast. I can only say i hope that your experience making the first one makes it a little easier to make the second one.

Hello !!!

Here is some news of my project :

I had to re-build another plaster, mushroom conga was too much damaged.

I made a plaster and directly the fiberglass mold with it. Just one problem, I failed the diameter, the size is between a standart quinto and a standart conga.
It's not a big deal, I will keep this mold and make all my experimentation before made the perfect sizes.

Slowly but surely !!!!

Hi guys !

Thanks Vinniel !

Do someone know how to do a gloss finish ? Do I need to varnish the gel coat or just polish it ?

On fiberglass shell from big brands, do someone know how they do ? Maybe they have just a perfect mold and they don't make varnish... I don't know.

Lou, I know on boats they use a female mold and the first layer of anything is the gelcoat. Then the next layers are added until done. I assume that the gelcoat is glossy as soon as the hull(shell) is realeased from the mold. You can also buff gelcoat with fine compound for more gloss. Buck

Thanks Buckoh, I'm wonder how they are doing for Pearl Fiberglass or new Meinl fiber, because they have no join mark on the shell between the two parts of the mold. On other, I think they have a mark, but they put a metal band to hide it.

They maybe don't varnish on the drums wich have metal brand, and for the pearl and new meinl, they maybe sand and paint... don't know.

Hey BigB !! how are you guy ??? I c'ant tell you when for the moment, because I take my time to made my best !!! But I'm working on it as soon as I can !!!!
