A very entertaining video featuring the Schlagwerk Yambu; a conga-esque cajon and the marimbula.
This cat shows some tremendous independence toward the end when he plays both instruments while also playing clave with a pedal.

His Independence is good!

I like the sound of the cajon here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UguZNfT8wms&NR=1 Perhaps a good recording?

Hi Steve u know Bronx dont go to Brooklyn, or Brooklyn to Bronx, back then...so i never really knew any rumberos in Brooklyn...I know they used to jam out of Reese beach as well.. I was one of the early rumberos to play Orchard beach Section 1 back in the day.. Now you have to play off of the beach , inside the park area...but they still jammin !.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IpqlfRCnAfA y las mujeres?....OVIDATE!!!.... if ur in NYC in the summer try and make it to Orchard beach in the boogie down Bronx, for the drumming and the women...CHACHOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! :P Miss those days!..."JC" Johnny Conga -Orchard Beach Alumni-Section 1

My absolute favorite bongosero of this current era... 'Franciso "Frank" Oropesa'.
This is the style that absolutely "floats my boat"! (as opposed to N.Y.C. styling)
Currently Director and player for Septeto Nacional.
For me.. Frank is "Da' Man".

4 videos of him when he was a much thinner and much younger man.
(weren't we all once?)

Hi Mark,

thanks for posting! I had never heard of him to this day. I don't know how they are playing in New York, and I'm not sure whether there aren't some manufacturers outside Cuba who can build first class bongos; but this man surely plays the way I love it, and the sound of his drums is superb, too.

Greetings from good (c)old Germany,

Thomas
