Does anybody know the address of Carribbean Rhythms? My girlfriend will be in the Dominican Republic in June and could carry back some bongos for me. She won't be going to Haiti. I seem to remember that Carribbean Rhythm products were sold on eBay and were listed as coming from Dominican Republic. Thanks, Buck

I had a set of bata from them many year ago, nice drums, three solid segments of good tropical wood, great sound but too small (wrong sizes, iya was about 10.5") to get a true cuban sound out of.

Faustino,

What is the price value this days for the JCR set I posted previously on this thread?

JG,

I go to Cali's at least 2 times a year, I go visit my daughter in Queens. Cali doesn't get caoba like that anymore. All of us that have solid caoba bongos are fortunate people. You can write your own ticket on that one, but realistically I would say at least $400. I'll give it a range between $400/$550. Nobody today, that I know, is making solid piece bongos. The best, which are Matt's Ritmos or Jay's SOS are not solid pieces, they are staves. Why sell a diamond like that, unless you have to or have more than one. Aqui va el mio,1978, papa'.

Saludos,

I was fortunate enough to pay $300.00 for both of these.

Faustino,

So I gather that JCR’s mahogany bongos sets were coming to Caly from the same people that were making Caribbean Rhythm mahogany bongos. Basically in a nutshell they provided Caly with the shells and center block and then Caly refined the bongo shells, mounted heads, made hardware and voila JCR one piece mahogany bongo sets.

I have (2) Caribbean Rhythm solid mahogany sets I bought couple of years ago. One of this days I may decide to send them Matthew or Caly to get professional grade hardware on them. I refinished the shells and the hardware, changed out the lugs and for now I am keep them like that. I also bought the oak one made from rum barrel staves that thing sounds good with the chivo heads but is work in progress. I am doing some refining myself and even re-created the bearing edge. I just need to shave some more wood from the inside (too thick) and who knows probably take them to my local wood hobby shop put them on the lath and cut some grooves in the shells and install a new center block of my liking. Just waiting for warmer weather.

So what about the JCR congas. Are those made by Caly all the way?
