May god be with mario and Isla Pecussion. he is a real brother and a joy to know. I played the isla requinto once it inspired me to be a more thoughtful player in terms of technique to master that mule skin. I loved it and I love the affordable price . I been playing LP classics and giovanni's for over 30 years . i can't afford SOS or ritmos. I would like more poly urethane on Islas if i had a set. I heard a reason for their shape and the lack of shinyness. Listen them tubs is awesome and Mario is the Man. Ialso played one of juniors congas. . I like cadillacs , and lexux and a benz now and then. I love the banded style maybe because I'm a purist or something.

The ISLA crew would like to take a moment to acknowledge all the supportive and critical statements published concerning our products.
We are currently expanding our product line with various Exotic species exclusive to the region of Central America.
Currently we are offering Honduran Mahogany and Ziricote (Cordia dodecandra).
The properties of the Ziricote species has been tested and proven to produce desirable resonant qualities.

Mario's new phone number is: 772-418-8131

Works in progress.

Do you know if the Ziricote can handle East Coast climate change? Also, does that wood give good bass tone?

I'm not sure about the bass tones but i do know that Ziricote is not an easy wood to deal with. Its got to be cured very well and sealed well too as its prone to checking.
I bet that little Oconc. is heavy. Looks cool as hell its some of the nicest looking wood out there whats next bocote congas , Burl wood inlays.....

Congratulations Jose I am no doubt excited for you. What was your order? Quinto, Conga, Tumba? By the way, how long before you have them? as far as shipping, how does it compare to domestic?

I ordered a canoe wood conga/tumba set just before Isla moved and got them in late November as Mario was running out the door for Belize.

I contacted Mario in December about a requinto and he had just enough canoe wood left to make me one. As of March 5 he had just gotten in the skins and no doubt will be frantically getting all the drums he mas made skinned and ready to ship.

He said the skins came from USA and it probably took forever by boat to get to Belize.

When I spoke with Mario recently, he said things were back on track since his move, and is now at roughly 3 mos for orders.

Mario is now getting his skins locally in Belize. It is good news because he can choose the best skins for his drums
himself instead of relying on a middle man.

Looks like he has been updating his site recently...

Anyone know how much Mario sells the new crowns for? I have the old one on my requinto.
