Five Lugs conga Delaporte???

Postby joaozinho » Sun Mar 28, 2010 1:44 pm

I saw one annonce of "delaporte conga",but the picture seems more like a quinto or a requinto to me.What is your opinion guys?I notice that this "conga" have five lugs, instead of the normal six,or seven in the delaporte models. Please give me your opinios!!

Thanks so much

Jump on it. From what I have read these drums are very well built and have exceptional hardware. Another thing, they don’t show up too often. This drums appears to be in exceptional condition, if you can get it at a good price definitely do so regardless of whether it's a quinto or a requinto, although to me it looks more like a quinto. Good luck.

Hi

If the price is correct, do not hesitate. Delaporte was the best hand made drum maker in France for decades

Looks like a quinto with that shape especially with 5 lugs. Of course, a quinto is a conga, just like a conga is a conga and a tumba is a conga.

The "problem" is that he insist that is a conga and gave me the standart mesures (conga:11 3/4,tumba 12 etc...)but i found strange to see a delaporte conga whit 5 lugs(of course that is a quinto)It's more a problem of honesty and the danger of buying for someone that you dont know. The price is 380euros,(the shipping is include in the price)I think that is a very good deal, probably to good to be true, the same guy seels a pair of meinls(old model whith tradicional rims)in very good shape (quinto and conga) for 250euros the pair (the transport is include in the price)what is this??? 250euros,he probably going to pay some 100euros just for shipping.Hummmm very strange.

Thanks for your comments!!!!

The 5 lugs is not that strange, my Skin on Skin conga sized conga has 5 lugs, and it is 12". My vintage Gon Bops has 5, but it is smaller than modern congas.

Hummm, it's true, like Bauer, the quinto is more requinto sized, and the conga is 11.By the way,you have beautifull drums.

Thanks Joao, sounds like the Delaporte might run smaller. My Gon Bops conga is just 10 1/2", 5 lugs and Gon Bops quintos are 9 1/2" also with 5 lugs.
That Delaporte does look like a fine drum, and very rare. This is the first I've heard of one being sold in a long time.

Thanks for your help.I always like your photos, they have a very good light, and make justice to your oustanding drums.

Hi Joaozinho !

I think it's really a quinto or requinto, I have seen a lot of Delaporte, and never a 5 lugs conga.

Hi congalou!
That's what I think too!In my opinion,(and of course I didn't saw all the Delaporte models, but I never saw a 5 lugs conga.Instead I saw Delaporte congas whit 7 lugs)this is a requinto, this drum have no belly at all is like a fashion supermodel hehehehheh! It is not the quality of the instrument that is in cause, what is in cause is that the guy insist, that this drum is a 11 3/4 conga, and it's not clear and honest. The price is 380euros.

It could be an honest mistake. Could'nt he just take another picture with a tape measure across the top to show the size?

380 euro is a good deal, of course if there is no split, if the skin is good, hardware too...

Be carefull about splits, Oak Delaporte split sometimes... I have reglue a lot.

I'm curious about the year of construction, if there is any infos, could you tell us ?

Cocorico !!!
