The bongos of bongosnotbombs

Postby bongosnotbombs » Thu Apr 08, 2010 5:53 pm

I felt like posting some pictures today. Here are all the bongos I own right now. A 30 year old Valje bongo. A 2 1/2 year old Resolution bongo I ordered from Ralph at Resolution and a Skin on Skin cherry bongo I bought used a couple of months back, made around 18 months ago.

The Skin on Skin has the stock skins, the Resolution has some mule skins from L&H which I am warming up to and beginning to like. The Valje also has mule skins from a different source, I don't like them as much on that bongo, so I'm going to be switching them soon. Sadly Haight Ashbury Music doesn't seem to have the kip I like in stock anymore, but I'm definitely going back to cow for these.

All great bongos, each one very different from the next. My favorite? Hard to say, but that Valje really has some special mojo, it's also the most
comfortable to play. The Skin on Skin is probably the most responsive, especially the macho with a great sharp sound and the Resolution just has this incredible dry and woody sound with fantastic volume on the hembra. They all have impeccable craftsmanship and construction, reputation and history.

Thanks for the compliments Charlie. It's been a while since we seen your bongos, post up man!
I was inspired to take a few more this morning, each bongo with it's matching conga. The Resolution is really the only one I ordered to match, the SOS and Valje just fell in my lap, both deals too good to pass up. I'm not really looking for anymore bongos, but I do have that vintage Gon Bop conga and a vintage Gon Bop bongo would be a nice match, and I have that DW Gon Bop California series conga, and Isla is making bongos too now. But that would be way too many bongos...
