Mounting skins high. Close to the top of the shell

Postby Paqui » Sun May 23, 2010 8:37 pm

Hello,

I'm selling a pair a Timba bongos on eBay --> http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290437147361&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT
and below is a comment I got from a guy named Alex:

Heya,
I am sorry but from the pictures, they are not playable, how do you want to get those slaps without breaking your finger on the rims??
The skins are mounted wrong, the rims need to sit further down like one inch.Regards, Alex

I personally have no issues playing these bongos with the rims that high, but just want it to hear your opinion --I've seen other bongos, like Matthew Smith's which have the skins mounted almost at the top of the shell level...

Thanks a bunch for your comments!

This has been debated here before ! Some people are ok with with the skins coming like this . others have a problem paying big money for drums and having to work on them and wait for the skins to come down .

Thanks a lot for your comments guys. I personally like the skins mounted that way and as leedy2 mentioned, they will come down with time.
I'm selling these bongos for a friend who is in the military and needs some money, so I don't want to do anything to them without his permission.
On the other hand, wetting the skins to strech them, I'm pretty sure will shorten their playable life.

Thanks Leedy2! For now I'm going to leave the bongos the way they are...If anyone is interested in buying them, he/she will have the option to wet the skins to lower the rim or play them as they are.
