BONGO TIMBAS ISMAEL, PUERTO RICAN PRIDE

Postby Omelenko1 » Sat Jun 12, 2010 4:59 pm

I just sold an incredible LP Palisades Park from 1971 with Cuban bottoms, in the process of selling a 1960's Cuban pair to Abakua. Trying to liquidate some of my stock because I got to move. All of the sudden out of the clear blue skies (estos calleron del cielo) here comes a Timbas Ismael 10 lug PR Caoba bongo' from the bongocero of "Acento Antillano", a Christian group. I had been after him for about 12 years and had forgotten about it. He had it made from the old man, Ismael Ramos, in the early 80's at his shop in Plaza Bayamon. This is the biggest Ismael out of the 3 I've had. Macho 7", hembra 8 1/4". Concert bongos 7" tall. Suenan con cojones! Photos enclosed, sun bathing with "manteca de corojo" by the pool.

That's a beauty. You got "azuqita" for them Boricua and Cuban bongos, they find their way to your place.

To find a Timbas Ismael bongo' in 2010 is very rare. I think Ismael died in 1989 or 1990. Another thing he made more congas than bongos. In my almost 40 yrs. of collecting, 3 have come my way, this one is by far the best of the 3 and the bigger one, probably the lightest one in weight, on account that is lathed on the inside, where the other 2 weren't. I knew of it, but had given up on it because the owner never wanted to sell it. He like many in today's economy, is going through a difficult time, so he opted to let it go. Another thing, people know that I collect whatever is Cuban or Caribbean, specially percussion items.

I'm offering a pacakage deal. Original matching set of Ismael congas and the 10 lug Ismael bongo' (in above photos). Puerto Rican craftsmanship, pride and heritage. Impossible to find in 2010, Ismael passed in 1989/90. PR Caoba wood for the congas as well as the bongos. Coming first to the forum ( pa' los Boricuas en especial), eventually there is Ebay. Contact me if interested.
