Humboldt 2010: What a lineup!!!!

Postby taikonoatama » Tue Mar 09, 2010 5:36 pm

I just checked the site for the lineup at this year's Afro-Cuban Dance and Drum Workshops at Humboldt State University in Northern California (in July), and wow, it's heavy! Last year was just ridiculous, especially with Sandy Perez and Roman Diaz together at the rumbas every night - those two have amazing chemisty on the drums. And this year Pedrito Martinez is coming, too! Wow. And Jesuz Diaz! He's incredible! Toto Berriel. It goes on and on. All those great drummers and I didn't even mention our own David Penalosa, and Mike Spiro and John Santos, all amazing players and teachers of the highest level. Lazaro Galarraga as your song instructor every day for a week? C'mon! And dance classes with Rey Gonzalez and Susana Arenas?

I'm in.

A message from the Director:

The Explorations in Afro-Cuban Dance and Drum workshops at Humboldt State University in Arcata, California is less than one month away. All the party houses are set for our nightly rumbas. Participants from as far as England, New York, North Carolina, Colorado, Hawaii, British Columbia, Oklahoma, and more are registered. The cost goes up by $25 after June 30th, so you can save by registering now. The lineup for this year is Lazaro Galarraga - song and batá instruction; Roman Diaz, Miguel Bernal, Sandy Perez, Toto Berriel, Jesus Diaz, Michael Spiro, John Santos, and David Penalosa will be teaching percussion and accompanying dance classes each day. Susana Arenas and Reynaldo Gonzalez are teaching dance classes. For more information please visit http://www.humboldt.edu/afrocuban
