why would you trade an Osiris bell for J C R Franklin Osiris make a better bell and welds much better than Cali.

Que tal Cuquito, actually doesn't have to be a JCR....maybe I'll just keep Osiris and look around a medium pitch.

Look at the LP Salsa series, I have a Colombian Percussion and a JCR campana and Salsa is right up there with them sound wise. They each have their own character for different situations.
BTW, at the risk of highjacking my own thread, I always add extra dampening to the inside of the mouth to remove some of the high overtones. Anyone have any views, advice, insights on tuning campana?

This post was good for me as it made me start listening to recordings and watching videos for when the campaña comes in. A definite blind spot for me to some extent. I was pulled in as a last minute sub for a local Salsa band a few years back and was kind of lost. I'm talking the very last minute. I was stage manager and literally tuned up my drums during the beginning of the first song. It was a great learning experience as it really taught me the importance of that campaña and what it does for driving the music for the dancers.

I've definitely noticed the bell waiting for the insparations in Son, whereas in Salsa the bongocero often seems to play more bell than bongos.

leedy2 wrote:There are hundreds of bell patterns not being played today every one plays the same thing for every rhythm son, mambo, all the same no one cares to study and learn rhythms any more and they call them selfs bongoseros, congeros, timbaleros what a shame .This why you see that I at time say they learn one tumbao and they are already masters . Here in conga place you have a ton of them and you also have a ton of good players and many that can't play with a band due to they concentrate only on rumba there other rhythms out there they just don't apply or learn other rhythms so they can apply bell patterns.

Leedy, what about helping people here by writing a sheet with the various bell patterns? You know, it is of NO help just to say "there are hundreds of bell patterns a noone wants to learn them today"... I'm sure most of the members are here to learn from others, and so we would really appreciate concrete explanation of concrete bell patterns...

Great, looking forward to it... I would be happy to re-type the patterns in a notation software, if you PM me them in any way (handwritten, xxoo etc.)...

I've been cheeking this post since it started and I tried to look for videos about different campaneos and I do not find any. I will be really exited to learn those bell patterns too as well as many others here in this forum.
The notation is a great way to learn part by part the patterns and it I will be even better with a video of those so we can hear them. You can upload those in Youtube and I am sure many people will be really happy to find that information on the web.
It is just my idea, I think it can help others that really want to learn and keep this bongocero tradition alive.

Take care
