Do You Really Need Expencive Conga Drums

Case in point, just bought my daughter a used upright today, 5 g's baby! that's a lot of tubs!

My need was for good solid dependable congas, at a good reasonably low price. With the skins I have put on them, they sound heavenly; so I have what I need.

Now I just want 3 more to set up a permanent practice station so I can keep my gigging congas in the car and not have to keep moving them between the car and the basement to practice. But, with the economy as it is, unless I get the deal of a lifetime on Craigs List or something like that, those 3 more will be a looong time coming, and I'll keep moving them in and out of the house all the time (~109 performances so far this year according to my milage log).

Leedy, great post and question. Though I play often, about 60% for pay, I well pleased with the inexpensive Caribbean Rhytym Quinto and Conga I use. The set was less than $300 and well seasoned...really nice organic, deep tones to it and solid..oh man, these things are solid. Only thing I don't like much about them is they are heavy. Along with my off-brand Requinto, I have a nice set for about $350. I plan eventually to add a tumba, but am happy with the set as is for now. Thanks again for the great discusson and posing this question.
