If you are getting a good deal jump on them. They are very nice sounding drums.

I don't believe Mario of Isla Percussions has sold a pair of bongos to anyone here, they were only developed by Isla this year after the move to Belize and the switch to mahogany and ziracote woods. I have not heard of anyone on this forum ordering or receiving a set.

Leedy have you actually owned a set of Isla bongos? What makes you say Mario Punchard comes from the school of Mariano Bobadillo? I've never heard Mario say that nor have I heard him say he worked there. Where are you getting this information from?

I think you may be confusing Isla with a different company. The first bongo made by Isla was in May of 2010. Also I do not think Isla's bongo design resembles Gon Bops, nor their congas. The shape of the shells between the companies are different for both congas and bongos.

Vaya, I was on the move to buy Islas Bongos about 2 months ago but my daily ride broke down and I have invest some money on the repair. I e-mailed Mario some questions about the hardware, price, wood type, measures, ect. He explained everything in detail. The only aspect I was not happy was the way the lugs looks on the pictures, I was worry about the lugs could be touching and scratching the wood but he said he could position them further apart and also the bongos were already tested so there was nothing to worry about. His congas are a piece of art so should be his Bongos. I doubt that any problem could arise from his Bongo desing .

By the way Timbas Del Valle is going to start making Bongos out of Mahogany, stainless steel hardware and cilindrical shape. He is working on one now so as soon as it is finish and test, some pictures will be post. So hasta la vista.

A french friend of mine made a 200 dollars deposit to Isla percussion 2 months ago. He wanted to buy bongos .But after a few mails of confirmation that told that everyting was ok and that he was going to receive his instrument ,he got no news and the phone number of Isla is unavailable.
We think that the company doesn't exist anymore and my friend has just lost his money.
Has anyone heard about Isla recently?

If only.....................the hooktabs on the rim protruded a little more and the corners of said tabs where a little pointier they would be perfect, and maybe a bigger badge would look good too

At first glance they look nice, but it does seem that he hooks protrude out quite far. i wonder if they are comfortable to play. Would love to hear how they sound. However i think they biggest challenge they will have is in the buyers confidence they will ever get them....

lol - that set my sarcasm detector off big time Dangler.

While I'm posting I wish every time someone commented on the great sound of their drums they would post a sound file - its kind of meaningless otherwise, specially when its someone's first post (no offense intended rumbero).
