hey bongoceros,
i hvae a question and im hoping some of the more experienced & knowledable percussionist can help me.my question has to do with natural heads, goat,mule,kip,etc..
if you mount a head onto a bongo, (let it dry, tune it up,play it,etc), can u later take that head off and put it on another macho or hembra of the same size?

thanks in advanced for any info..

Yes you can, if does not go on easy, just make it damp a little and should slip onto. Then you need to let it dry. Sometimes rub some candle on the inside of the head and could also work. Do not force a dry Macho head onto the shell if it does not fit because damage will occur by forcing. You going to see small cracks developing on the head as you tighten .

It is the same while having fun with a Lady if you force it into a dry one you end up cracking your dickhead.

Any natural head that is off the drum edge , will shrink a bit. The heads needs to be a bit wet & pliable ( not soaked until its is to soft ) in order to remount it. Then as it shrink dries, it molds to the drum edge. I always mark my headsww/ a pen ( a small dot lined up to a particular point on the drum, so if I replace it on the same drum, it will return to its original position & molded shape on the drum.
