Banding is not needed on VGA drums. Also consider, custom banding is costly. This is not like industrial banding material coming off a spool. The curved profile shape of the bands when lying flat, are all custom shaped to each company's drum shape, then metal has to be cut , rolled, fine adjusted, riveted or welded, carefully placed & compared to the other drums so they look placed at the same location for each drum...its time consuming work. IF you want a banded drum. Shop a company for a model designed to use bands !? Gon Bops Mariano Model...uses a medium weight wood...not as soft as mahogany, but they are banded w/ steel bands ( not Aluminium ) and come w/ cow hide heads...in great sizes at a great price for t5he traditional look & sound of banded folkloric style congas....from Gon Bops ! VGA drums are custom Art objects more than work horse road gig drums. Consider what music you will play & the environment etc. A banded drum maybe nice, but may also just be a cost prohibitive complication ! ?

VGA tuning system, parts & over all tuning system & alignments etc are 5 times better designed, fabricated and dependable for ever...compared to Ritmo or Jay's Skin on Skin models. The heads can be had via L&H, or just request the heads you want from VGA ! Ritmos have not refined the problematic hard wares they use that are copied from old designs, that do not hold up as years pass.

Excuse my ignorance, but I just can't figure ot what VGA means. An abbreviation (obviously), a new brand, any new company that I don't know yet?

I think these drums are the best Valje looking drums and are similar to Fat Congas due to the belly sizes & excellent designed & constructed hard wares superior to all U.S. custom made ones on the market except for Volcano brand made in Hawaii by Tom Alexander, who also has a similar Fat Conga style crown rim. If & when I replace my 1998 Gon Bops, these drums are at the top of my wish list. I would use my own handles that do not have any sharp edges so they wont dent the adjacent drums. I would add my own mounting system as well since i also use congas on a stand that I designed myself to be superior to the Asian made varieties. These VGA's show a stretched white head, similar to old Gon Bops & Valjes which produce a warm tone. I would tuck my own heads for my preferences for use in Salsa bands etc. Other than that, VGA is a perfect drum for custom drum lovers and the Stainless steel is ideal ~ superior to any chromed, tinted or powder coated steel hard wares or cast metal ones. I desire a set of 10"quinto, 12" conga & 2- 13" tumbas. Excellent !
