Tone consistency, brands, models

Postby studio7conga » Thu Apr 28, 2011 12:59 pm

Currently play 2 LP Classics (conga and tumbadora) and looking to add a quinto, or possibly requinto. Want to go a little higher end than the Classics. Is consistency of tone something I should be concerned about? Ever play two manufacturers or models at once? The classic series doesn't have a requinto ... Any ideas of what would be a good choice? Help is much appreciated.

Surely the LP Giovanni ash requinto (or quinto) would
blend nicely with your LP Classics, probably a skin upgrade
should be considered too - LP´s waterbuffalo stock skins
suck big time IMO...
EDIT: FYI, I once played LP Giovanni + LP Classic + Matador side by side
in a set of three and could not hear any inconsistency in tone.
It´s all in the skins - and your hands! :)

Thanks Mike. What do you think for a skin upgrade? I'm ready to pull the trigger on that.

Are you based in the US?
If so, go for L&H´s cow or mule skins - they´re the real thing :D

Mike at L&H always does a terrific job, excellent skins,
well-chosen to your needs.
