Chepito is a very efficient timbalero when it comes to Rock and Fusion. Orestes can play any type of music, danzon, mambo, rumba, guaracha, Latin jazz, Latin rock. Orestes knows how to play the cascara and execute precise "abanicos". Chepito is constantly soloing and smashing the cymbal. I do recognize that Chepito was the member responsible for creating the Santana sound, before Chepito's influence Santana's group was a blues band. It was Chepito more than anyone else who brought the Latin influence to the band, in the form of congas and timbales, however, Orestes is the best timbalero in the business.

I saw orestes in 86 in SF, great timbalero for sure, the best? I don't know hard to say, so many greats, I still freak out when I listen to old Tito recordings, I mean the really old stuff like tito Timbero, Ran Can Can ( the original) Cao Cao Cao , the guy was just so fluid and had SOOOOOO many ideas, he never ran out of them, and whe he played the old natural skin timbales he got such a musical variety of tones out of them, not to mention he was a bad ass vibes player as well.

I got to see these guys while in Cuba, the kid and his little cousin are coming along nice & strong, they had a small section in the show where they took turns trading off with solos. I will try to upload the video soon.
