Bongo Case designing

Postby VJBaros » Mon May 09, 2011 8:03 am

Im making/designing a bongo case with plywood and metal. What do you want and look for in the "ultimate bongo case". what compartments would you like? pockets, LED light inside, lining, color, custom art work, double as a cajon hahaha JK, designed to carry more then 1 set of bongos? Please give me your ideas, imputs, wishes, dreams, likes/dislikes, and advise. Thank You!

Mienl makes a soft case that I think is perfect. not much bigger then a large bongo with a divider on top with just enough room for accessories. I would use that as my model but make it strong and comfortable enough to sit on for a full set.

Also - once I got the design just right, I would make a prototyoe, use it for a while, then find someone to make a bunch of them, and sell them here for just enough above cost so that I got mine for free, No profit, public service at its best!

Plywood and metal ? That make the case to heavy best hard shell cases are made of fiber. After you put bongos ,sticks , cowbells and other chaschas that you use in case it becomes very heavy to carry, imagine in wood and metal how much more it will weight.

Thanks guys! you are right Faustino, it sounds heavy. How can I make it strong and light weight and where can I get it? I can always buy a case. but I rather have the satisfaction of making my own creation custom made to my personality and all the specs a bongocero would want and looking for

That is a good idea. Then I need people imput of what they want and how they would do it. so the design can be for bongoceros by bongoceros. it would be "THE ULTIMATE BONGO CASE"

I think he means "Fiberboard" which it is a type of boar similar but much stronger and much better than "particle boar". The fiberboard it is also refereed to as "Medium-density fiberboard"
Probably similar to this http://drums-percussion.musiciansfriend ... 43534#used

How about a case that hold 2 bongos, a compartment for a seated stand, slots for cowbells, pocket for extra skins, and comprtment for beaters and sticks, and you would still be able to fit charts. I said 2 bongos becuase; you have a SOS with black walnut with cow hide, with the hembra 9, and you have a JCR in Mohogany with 8 1/2 hembra and goat skin. You love them both, both have distinct different sound and feel and both work and sound different for different songs so you want to take them both without the hassle of carrying different cases, of course this all will be on wheels with a slide handle. Think about it; Sax guys sometimes bring a Tenor and his Alto sometimes even Soprano, Guitar sometimes brings 2 guitars. Why not the bongocero have options too? 2 favorite bongos with the convenience of 1 case. When I draw out the design I will show it here so you guys can give me feed back!

Easy to go out and buy a commercial strong road-case that is a good size for 2 bongos and accessories. Lots of good 5 rack cases will work - check Ebay. Hard to find a good hard case that is a good size for one set.

Hey Salsero1,

I got to admit that is a really cool looking and practical case. I probably don't "need" a case like that but I sure "want" it
Did you custom made it or it is for sale some where? just curious.

Salsero1

That IS sooooo cool!!!!! I was thinking something like that but different! If anyone else has bongo cases post pics of them, I like seeing ppics of drums, hardware, cases, and anything that pertaineth to thy drum! Many people look at porn and are addicted to it...... well looking at drums, congas, timbales, bongos is my adiction. My sister asked; "VJ, you look at those drum catatoges and magazines over and over again, thats all you do on your free time, it's getting annoying! WHY?" and I responded "you rather see me reading playboy and call me a perv? These magazines ARE my playboy!" So if you got pics of cases pleeeaaase post them!

SALSERO1 , Bro that is a really nice bongo case,4 shure nothing couldhappend to the bongos in that really hard case..can you attach it to wheels and a pull handle?
where did u get it? and how much?

Members were refering to having more then 1 bongo, and each bongo souns different, sometimes diferent songs sound better with a specific bongo, and playing all songs with one bongo will give you the same sound, but having two bongos at a gig will give you a better sound option.. for example playing salsa songs, and then modern bachata, or son, or baladas, slow songs require different sound from the heads...changing bongo trough a show is a nice option...kinda like changing guitars.....some bongos are really loud and project, some are more acustic.
Leedy :D
Kind of like an acustic, versus a electric guitar for different types of songs.
