I have several Englehart shade drums and bells. Awesome, but they do rust. The rust does not affect the sound. I was told they would rust when I purchased them from Pete. They actually look very nice even with the rust or should I say patina. I purchased them years ago at a trade show in Chicago when Pete was first starting out and I still love them. I only wish I had purchased more of them. Awesome sounding bells. Hope this helps.
You can always use gun oil on them to minimize and stop the oxidization process. I've had lots of his go-go bells and an original crasher, heavy dury stuff although I think I busterd up some of his bells. PC
Here is my vintage Peter Englehart bells and other PE percussion. They still sound wonderful. On Pete's website he says cleaning them with a scouring pad and then some wax will slow down the rust. I like them just the way they are.
