Nice video indeed. I just have one question or comment about this video, He is playing with a ring in his left hand. I saw other were Giovanni does that too. Do you have to be really "Good" to pull that off, or those rings are just very thin. I have big hands and big rings and I will never be able to play without the rings hitting the skin first.

During my time with Anga, I asked him that very same question. It was from his former wife, the ring was flat on the bottom side. Reinforced around the edges, and due to his technique, would not damage either the ring or his finger.

Candito - more than anyone my inspiration on conga - still is. When I started playing, 60's, Tompkins Square, Lower East Side, Alphabet City, NYC, I couldn't get the sound right but I taped up all my fingers to look like his. Sure hope I can play, even a little bit, at 91.

We watched this in John Santos's rumba lecture at Humboldt this year. That's Sandy Perez on Quinto! Turns out that every one of Marvin Diz's videos is just as amazing! You gotta love the split screen video technique. A class act!

Old post I know....but this was sweet. Why do those drums sound so good? Technique, miking, drums, acoustics?
