My trade:

gb1.JPG
Mariano Bobadilla's Original Bongo 1950's
gb2.JPG
Early Possibly 1st Generation Gon Bops 1950's

I was hoping for a sunny day to photograph these.....but no such luck. The trade included a little $/ a skin/ and my echo-tone. The drums are beautiful and I am happy with the trade, although I still love that black echo-tone. Does any one have a photo of another early generation Gon Bops similar to the second pic? I was wondering how it originally looked? Were there metal bands where it is now painted black? It looks like at one point the bands might have been painted a red glitter. On the edges you can see it.

The inside is also painted black.....I think possibly a thin tar? Dario did you paint the inside to prevent/stop wood splitting or did you get it like this?

Regardless of the black paint/tar both drums are really beautiful, very light weight, and sound really good.

Great bongos - great trade!! I have an IB 3000, late 60s/early 70s, looks like the 3rd one Leedy2 posted. Sounds great and I love the light weight - really easy to play. Enjoy!

The second in the photo that Jaquie posted I called "The Liitle Giant" because of the gigantic sound it has. I got it from a cook that played it in Woodstock with Richie Havens in 1969. It got it looking like it does, just put new heaads in it. The first one I got from Cuco. Both very early Gon Bops, very light weight. In my opinion, The Little Giant sounds better.
