Thanks for pointing the 15% deal. I had actually been watching for a deal like this since you pointed out the deeply discounted congas last month. At 88, I was going to pass, but at 75, I couldn't help it. I purchased when the availability was "only two left". Later I checked back and the bongos were back at list price -$250, with "only one remaining". Can't believe my good luck.

The company I work for sells to Amazon. I don't completely understand it, but Amazon uses some sort of automatic pricing that evaluates the market and adjusts their pricing accordingly. Sometimes they don't make any money.. even sometimes sells at a loss. Earlier this week I saw an item that normally sells for $46 list at $2.98, then $6.67 then $11.59. I guess on the average, they are making big profits by capturing return buyers. Amazon is awesome to buy from because of their customer service features. I could log onto my account and view things that I bought from 5 years ago. The lesson here is, if you see a great price on something you want from Amazon, buy it on the spot. The price will change.

I think merchants in many cases are adjusting to the reality of the economy today.
I have seen lots of good deals online this weekend you just have to know where to
look. This past black friday had record sales and now we have black monday in
the cyberworld. Season Greetings..................

I'm going to talk to our Sales Manager tomorrow. He handle the Amazon account and will know what it's all about. I'll post my findings.

I would be interested in knowing how Amazon can do this? I scored a Quinto last month and did buy the bongos due to my satisfaction with the quinto, and the price.

I'm glad others got in on the deal too.

Here's what he said; Amazon has a system that constantly reviews on-line pricing of other on-line retailers, by SKU. There is an algorithm that basically selects the best pricing and can change their pricing to match the best pricing found.

Conceptually, a retailer can make a mistake, or sell used with same SKU, and if Amazon's system picks it up, it can adjust pricing to same pricing. It's complicated and there was more to the story, but I didn't listen hard enough to understand all of it! Amazon is a nightmare for us manufacturers that try earnestly to offer fair pricing to all of our retailers. We've had some of our biggest accounts ask us why Amazon's pricing is kicking their butts.. that's how it happens!

Bongos~

That's very interesting to hear. Here's a side note to my story....

After I received the Quinto, I was pleased with the drum, and was kicking myself for not getting the Tumba and Conga too. But, the price had gone back up at the time I got the Quinto.

So, I actually called Gon Bops in MA and talked to them to see if there was a way I could get the same deal through them direct. I figured it was worth a shot.

The woman I talked to thought that Amazon must have made a typo on the price. But, she couldn't explain how they could have made a typo on all 3 drums. She was really surprised to hear what I paid for my Quinto and said they only sold through dealers, so I was out. She really felt though that Amazon made some kind of mistake in the pricing.

I think the advice of when you see a good price on Amazon, buy it, is true. The prices can change daily.
