I seen these on my local Craigs list.
They appear to be Mexican based on the hardware, "Playa Azul". The seller says that they are Cuban however in the 40's and 50' Mexican Congas were not uncommon in Cuba.
my 2 cents.

Yeah, they are from C.L....

He listed them at $900, then $800, now $100...

I might go check them out in person just for kicks, he lives near my family.

I thought they were Mexican drums, but am not an expert.

Vegaras they are not, they don't look Requenas. They might be early SONOCs or congas from Santiago de Cuba that I've seen before. I would have to look at them in person.

bOngO - Yeah the dude is nuts, he had the shekere in one previous ad. I did see the Isla set, pretty damn nice.

Omelenko1 - Any tell tale signs, if they are early SONOCs?

The shape of the shells resembles SONOCS. I've seen old beat up SONOCS like these made out of Cuban majajua wood. Will have to see them up close to tell.

They are definitely some crusty conga's though... perhaps some of the crustiest lookin' I've seen.

I'm wondering, has anyone ever run a "post a pic of "THE" crustiest conga" thread…. perhaps with some inspirational before and after pictures mixed in?
I like to think of the journey’s those old drums have been on, all the rum, the parties, the ladies 8) In the case of these drums, the beach they landed on after the ship-wreck and the pirates who played them around the fire!

Perhaps we could then put it to a vote :D
