Remo Heads. HELP!

I want to put some Remo heads on a full set of LP Galaxy Giovanni Series Drums. Sounds simple enough...

From what I understand through experience, the Tucked heads don't fit the Galaxy Giovanni Series/Palladium Series Drums properly. They are a couple of millimeters too small. Although they fit on the drum, the edge sticks out and in the case of the Conga/Quinto this is so bad that it hurts the hands and it exposes the flesh hoop.

So, although the 'Tucked' heads sound better in my opinion, the 'Crimplock' heads actually fit properly. So, 'Crimplock' it is, right?

Since the sizes vary for the different brands of drums, from what I can make out, these are the codes I need for LP Galaxy Giovanni Wood Drums:

M4-1250-S6-D2003 Tumba
M4-1175-S6-D4003 Conga
M4-1106-S6-D4003 Quinto

But what about the Requinto?!

On the Remo site they don't list any of their 9.75" heads as fitting "LP Galaxy Giovanni."
There are 3 choices I think:

M4-0975-S6-D2003
Fits LP: Aspire, CP Toca: Player Series

M4-0975-S6-D1003
Fits Gon Boops: California Series

M4-0975-S6-D4003
Fits Pearl: Primero Series Fiberglass

I think that it's not likely to be the first one (...D2003) as LP: Aspire/Cp have a different ring from the Galaxy Giovanni drums. The code for the last one (D4003) matches the codes of the other size heads for the LP Giovanni Series drums. I don't know if that means anything though.

Sorry this is all so boring but would really appreciate some help in determining which one of these three heads will fit my LP Galaxy Giovanni Requinto and if anyone has had any experience with the Symetry heads. How do you find them? I played them on a set of Gon Bops once and they sounded good but were slippery. People have told me that on larger drums they ring too much/or have too much sustain.

Maybe I'm wrong, but it looks like on this chart, they suggest the M4-0975-S6-D4003 for the Requinto. Maybe you are using an older chart?

Has anyone here played the Skyndeep heads? Do you like them?

Do Remo make Tucked fiberskyn heads that will fit a set of Galaxy Giovanni drums?

This is my personal opnion on remo heads & hopes it helps..

Remo fiberskyn: nice look & easy on your hands, but you don't get the clean sound
Remo nuskyn: plain look & a little rough on your hands but you get a great sound which in my opinion is the closest to animal hide.clean slaps ,etc.
Remo skyndeep: nice look & feel, also sounds pretty good but the sizes are kind of akward for congas, you have to do some adjusting for it to fit... this is the R-series.

I don't like the REMO heads anymore; I understand the advantages, such as easy on hands, easier to get tone, louder, and no tuning.

I got a set of Pearl Bobby Allende because of all the above reasons, and at the end I wasn't happy with the sound...I miss the sound of real skin. So now I am getting rid of them, waiting on a guy to come up with the cash; which is painful because I spent good money only to lose money. At the end, the advantages and quality of the REMO head didn't matter, I just wasn't digging the sound; which is important to me because thats why I took up this drum- i love the sound congas make.

Don't get me wrong, I don't want to steer you away, I just don't want you to make the same costly lesson.

I just put Skyndeeps on my LP Performer series.. I had to because the stock heads sound like dodo. The sound I have now is ok.. I think, but the head for the Tumba is not the best fit. I called Remo tech support and spoke with Chis.. he said if they fit at all, they are the right head. He explained that there is no standard in the industry (duh) so they are not always going to fit like a glove (paraphrased). I just made sure that I started out with the rings/heads level and worked around the drum until tuned. they came out just fine, but they certainly have cause for concern. Great feel on these heads. The tumba booms like crazy! The Conga is a tad muted... perhaps not the right tuning for the drum. Quinto sounds good. all-in-all I'm happy, but I really couldn't have made the drums sound worse with these heads, so it was a no loose deal for me. However, I do not have the kind of experience and expertise that many of you have, but this is just my 2 cents.

I tuned them when I first got them, and they stayed that way. Keep in mind that they where in my finished basement. Regardless of the benefits of synthetic skins, i love the sound of real skin.

So them heads require tuning, just making sure since you stated "no tuning". Real skin or Remo it just matter of personal choice.

I live in canada and the remo heads have been great. They stay in tune, are easier to tune and the weather appears to not affect them. The one problem with them is that because there is no industry standard as far as conga diameters, the heads will never fit as well as any hide skin that has been seated and basically molded to the congas. This is why I think the remo heads tend to ring. I just put some patches of gorilla tape on the underside of the heads to control the ring and it worked perfect. For recording, I would definately use raw hide, but make sure the drums have had enough time to adjust to the temperature of the studio because your conga will detune in the middle of the song lol.

The Remo sizing chart is not 100 percent true sizing. The Aspire heads are 1/4" smaller than the listed sizes so they are 9 3/4 and 10 3/4 at the bearing edge. Unfortunately the crowns at the rim vary between different conga builders and a crown may need to be changed if you insist on Remo heads.

I used to like the Remo heads a lot. I have experienced problems with the Skyndeep and Crimplock heads separating at the aluminum band and the head. I have friends that have experienced the same problem. This makes them lose value due to the separation makes them useless. I am very meticulous about evenly tuning my drums evenly and I was shocked when I saw this separation issue with my Skyndeep heads.

The glue must have been changed at Remo because all of my Remo Mondo Fiberskin 2 heads are just fine annd they are quite old (over 15 years).

The tucked heads do not have this separation issue because there is no glued aluminum band and the older heads I have owned have not had this issue.

Has anyone else had the same problem with the newer Remo heads?
