Jaisen, would you tell me what the height of these drums is? Everybody is talking about diameters. I'm on the tall side and I enjoy sitting naturally and erect. Not that I could afford to purchase your drums; but going by the visual impression, Moperc may be an option someday.

Jaisen, Out of respect to Thomas I refrained from mentioning other material available. Reading Thomas' frank and eloquent reply it appears ok for me to mention the series by Luca Brandoli. Luca has published about 10 books with CDs which are available on Earth CD. I have two of the earlier Volumes.

I have taken lessons from him in LA, he is nice guy, slight introvert but quite knowledgeable having taken many trips to Cuba

He is quite good by all accounts, here he is singing

btw, I saw Thomas book for sale on ebay for $125 a few days ago. Also, it is still listed on Descarga.
An item being listed on Descarga and being available is mutually exclusive, as is the norm on that site, but you can try.

I have an older set of these drums temporarily in my possession at the moment - they're a Maple version. They are a bit of an odd height, just under an inch taller than my 30" SOS drums. Not so much taller that they can't be comfortably integrated into the set, but just a bit.

With the stock heads the Maple drums had wicked bad overtones in them, I can't comment on the ash and have assumed that the maple might be a bit too dense for conga drums. A friend of mine owns them and we recently put a medium/thick mule from L&H on them. It certainly changed the dynamics of the drums! With the initial overtones came excellent projection, which was cut back a bit with the heavier heads. I now find the heads easier to control and the slaps are just ear cracking! I'd say that over 1/2 of the overtones are gone, but there is still a slight bell quality to them. The conga as a center drum mixed into my SOS set sounds great, nice precise tones with crack, slap, pop, mixed in with the more tonal qualities of the SOS drums.... a very nice contrast.
