Postby skinslapper » Mon May 07, 2012 1:18 pm

After i fixed up my Playa Azul conga i really start to like walnut .
There are walnut bongo's , ive seen a few on the net .

Anybody has one ?
I 'd love to see pictures .And buy one (later, my finances are low again )
What would be the averidge price ?

And if you have one in a(really) bad state i like to buy it .
That way it wil be afordeble to me .

Thanx & greetings

Saludos Skinslapper,
This is a set I purchased last year from Jay Bereck in upstate NY from Skin On Skin Percussion. Black Walnut with chrome hardware. Great skins and sound, very lightweight 8lbs. Total cost was $475 with the shipping. I'm not sure whether or not it would be more to ship to Holland but you can always give him a call and see if he still ships overseas if you're OK with the price of the drums.(607) 639-2417 is his contact number. He has an assistant, Joshua Scott, who crafts the drums as well. Much luck in your search and peace.

Jorge.

I think the OP would like to have a less expensive set, for example an old, beat-up, possibly Palisades Park walnut bongó to refurbish
rather than a new one.
Every now and then you might stumble over occasions at Craigslist or other local ads, perhaps even ebay if you are lucky.
As a comparison, I got an LP zebrawood bongó (which I really love) from a local seller for 100€ (=130$) and have been a happy man ever since.
I just had to mount a new skin on the macho and repair one tiny crack.
Peace & drum

I have 2 walnut bongos, an old one-piece Cuban and an LP from the 60's. There are pics in some of the old threads. Walnut is a beautiful wood and great for bongos. I don't believe I have ever played a walnut conga.

But, I have old Gon Bops congas in both oak & mahogany, same size and same skins, they sound very different. I have LP bongos in oak, mahogany, walnut, and zebrawood. With the same skins they sound the same to me. Maybe others can hear the difference but I cannot.

You have got a point there, for me ot is also close to impossible to hear a difference between my LP mahogany and zebrawood bongos.
All the wood types you mention, Psych1, are hard wood, so they might project in a similar way I guess.

@ Salcero 1 Hola .Thanx man !
These are Verry nice bongo's indeed !!!

Only a bit to much for me now .
I'll save the nr though !

@Mike
Yes indeed that's my plan !
I check percussion selling site's daily but never saw a walnut bongo (yet)

And wat is a craiglist ?

@ psych 1
The reason for liking walnut is the Playa Azul conga i resently fixed .
It's such a nice Conga .Great sound and verry loud 4 the small size .

(you can see it here
viewtopic.php?f=5&t=7535&start=15#p73915)

I think that Walnut Bongo's might be as loud as the Conga ?
But maybe that's a fantasy as you say you can't here the differents .
