How did you fix it ???

A friend asked me if i could make a cheap stand for his native (iranian ) drum .
He'se always broke !!
I came up with this (In all US 16.00) :







And told him he should put a small blanket under the drum for protection and to strap the drum to the stand while playing !

Just finished my batá (okónkolo)

I've put 20 verry thin layers of woodfloor lacker on it (Waterbased).
is a nice thick coat now!

After lackering i sanded it with a fine grain wet sandpaper and steelwool (also wet )
Its a semi gloss lacker . I don't like gloss to much .


Not tuned yet .
Its 23.05 my neighbours won't like me if i do !

It's a Playa Azul from Mexico .
The company went down in 1967 .

Just check the wood , this one is walnut and sounds great .

The Conga is done .Verry nice sounding drum .Well worth the work ! Now 4 the quinto









See those silly buttons on the quinto ? The where also on the conga .
Thats were the three black spots are know .
There also is a socket for a plug on the bottem somewhere !
What a dumb F@cker who did that ....!

But that 's after again a lot of work . But i will fix the quinto .

I already fell in love with this conga ,it sounds verry nice !!!!!
Made from walnut.
It's really heavy though.

fooled around with an old mini bongo.
Wanted it for finger practise .

It turned out to be verry handy !
Easy to take anywhere !

Put a plastic skin on the machito , and made a bigger connection block .
The kettles where to close together and hurted my fingers .

The plastic skin gives it a higher pitch .
Real skin cant take the strain,and cracks before it's in tune , I think the skin is to small !

Its actually pretty good (for it's size )!

Nice creative solutions to some quirky problems! You might be interested to know that on a wooden boat those wood inserts, such as the wedge shaped one, are called a Dutchman. Keep up the good work! Buckoh

In 1999 til 2000 I played in a band .(judge abraham& the Jury)
We had a CD out and played 4 to 5 times a week through a booking agency .
That time my main conga's where my Meinl Marathons .





I've hauled them everywhere and the took a real beating !
The Tumba fell of stage once and got a nasty crack !

Because i was not happy with there sound anymore i've distuned theme and put them in storage .
That was right after i bought my Bauers .

I ve sanded both down but , the Conga was badly dented . I could not sand all the red varnish out .
So it would never be nice with a clear coat of varnish
I filled up al the dents sanded again and gave it a base coat first .(4 layers )
Then 8 layers of yellow paint !








The tumbao was not to dented so i gave it a clear varnish (20 layers of verry thin waterbase varnish)
