Where to Buy Conga Drum Protective Bumpers?

Postby Mr.Rumba » Thu Jun 28, 2012 9:52 am

Does anyone know where to buy or order the protective rubber hardware covers/ bumpers like those on the Gon Bop, Meinl or other congas? I have searched on line and can only find the LP which is model specific. Thanks!

LP model has 2 sizes, one to suit the standard 5/16" diameter tuning lugs like found on Patato's, Classics, Matadors, etc etc and the larger one to suit 3/8" diameter tuning lugs.

The first one should be ok on most standard drums. I used the LP ones on my Cuban drums, perfect fitting.
What drums do you have that the LP ones wouldnt work on?

If you are a bit handy, you could make them.
The home-made jobs should work with just about any lug / plate arrangement

I have modified the LP bumpers to fit other congas. I use a Dremel type tool with a cutting disc/wheel and cut away where needed. Don't forget to wear protective face gear. I've also drilled the holes out for some bigger lugs. I have some Meinl slip over that cover the whole loop on the side plate including the nut. I use them on my Ritmos along with the little plastic caps that cover the ends of the lugs. I only use them on the sides that might have contact

Hi,
I just got a set of Spirit In The Wood congas. They are hand made one piece shells. They use the 3/8" lugs. Conrad the artist who makes the drums said the LP bumpers won't work but I ordered them anyway and maybe I can modify them if they do not work. YOu can see the hardware in this video:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDFpckgAwgk
Thanks for your help! Much appreciated!

Mr.Rumba...the drums in the video look really nice. Congrats on getting a beautiful set of hand made one piece wood drums. Bet you can't wait to get them. The drums in the video seem to have bumpers on them. Can't you get some like those?
