I'm not in Vancouver, but just across the puddle in Victoria...

Vancouver is a great city, if you like cities. Victoria's a little smaller, better air quality, quite a bit less crime - more my speed 8)

Either way, welcome to the left coast! NDP capital of Canada.

Victoria! I've been in Canada ten years ago and i visited Vancouver Island too.....i remember Victoria as a very quiet and nice city (i used to survive the traffic and the chaos in Rome). So Victoria it could be for us a good destination, it depends where i find a job.

So wait for me!!

I'll wait for you - no problem there. I'm neck deep in a terminal degree program that will keep me planted for a few more years.

Yes, the Puentes brothers are still in the area, but they rarely perform locally. Something I completely understand, Victoria is rather isolated being on the island and "exposure kills" in our tiny music scene. Alex now goes by "Alex Cuba", last time I saw him perform he had a massive fro and wore tight baby blue 70's pants :D Quite the look! He performed with only a percussionist, Jose Sanchez, who lives on Saltspring Island. I've met with Jose for a few lessons etc. After training on the congas with a folkloric rumbero, Jose really helped me tie the music to my western music training/writing - he was formally trained at a music school in Cuba. Unfortunately for me, good for him, he's often on tour and difficult to connect with for more training.

Isreal "Toto" Berriel should still be in the area.

Incredible depth of all afro-cuban music. Look him up on youtube
