Conga shell interior

Perhaps it would be interesting to discuss and compare different
surface structures of the inside of wooden congas which do not have
the two- or three-ply design (which has got more or less the same look inside,
sealed or not).
No, I mean how solid staves are shaped by the craftsmen inside the congas.
Pretty much like godskin has asked here:

The workmanship on these Reiches is great and the skins are top quality. The last picture show the horizontal grooves in the staves on the inside of the conga. Of cource mister Reiche does this on purpose but I wonder how this influences the sound ?

The answer to the ribbed design could be that it resonates better due to the greater surface?
Or on the contrary, to absorb too much resonance in order to produce drier tones? I am not sure there.

Well, anyway, I have seen this strange interior design lately:

I would like to know why the shell is hollowed out at the belly region in that manner?
In what way might that be beneficial to the sound I wonder?
For the same reasons I estimated above?

Jost does that ( 2nd and 3rd pic ) to his drums to reduce the ringing noises he said,
my Quinto looks pretty similar.
it does not help to smooth anything out inside of these drums I believe.

I see, thanks for the info.
FWIW, my Delaporte congas also have carved grooves inside as well
which are broader, but more shallow. There might be the same intention
behind that I guess. At least the Delaportes do not have any nasty
overtones whatsoever.

there were actually some Gon Bops that did have a fatter belly and also some that had the the interior series of cuts around the belly like Tom Flores Valje

So Jost Reiche modelled his drums in a similar manner like Akbar made the kind of Gon Bops mentioned in the link above I reckon.
