Does anyone know the sizes of the nuskyn heads fit on the lp classic congas for the quinto, conga, and tumba? Im having problems with the head not fitting on the comfort curve rims.
Remo used to have a printable document in which they had the major models of congas and bongos and the models of their heads, Fyberskins and NuSkyns, that fit each model of the major brands. However, Remo "rebuilt" their site and now all they have is a description of their heads. Anyway, this is what is in their site now that is still in construction:
Regarding their heads all they have is standard sizes based in the size of the conga. Therefore, if you got a NuSkyn that fits and 11 3/4 or 12 1/2 you got the right size. Be aware that some synthetic heads do not fit perfect with some models from some brand. Then, what you will get is what they call either a tight fit or loose fit because for that model and brand the synthetic head does not fit perfectly. (For example, in Pearl's site they tell you that some of Remo's synthetic heads will not fit perfectly). In this case, you have to deal with it if you get a tight or loose fit and is the correct size recommended for your model by Remo.
LP currently has an arrangement with Evans. I think that if you get an Evans head, that I personally do not like, it will probably fit "perfect" the LP since they both have an arrangement that Evans is the official supplier of synthetic heads for LP. (Beware with Evans head I am aware that the Galaxy Series, including Giovannis, have a special size for them because of the arrangement of their comfort rims is different than the other LPs. This is applicable to the new Galaxys from 5 years til now. Example, I have an old Galaxy in fiberglass that this does not apply. I made the mistake of getting the "special" Evans head once and it did not fit).
I just noticed, by visiting Remo's new "rebuilt" site, that they are coming with a new variety of Fyberskins and NuSkyns with "tucked" and something else, that apparently provides more varieity in the heads and fits that might address the issues of tight or loose fittings. Not that much information now, we'll wait to see.
A little more of what you asked for but just in case....
Remo heads come in the standard sizes, but for different rim/hoop shapes or styles. Check your local drumshop for their brouchure or visit their webpage and look for the correct model for your drums.
