Gio Palladium

Hola,
Anyone have Gio Palladium series tumbadoras?

I checked one out at the local twangmart(Guitar Center). sounded good.
Kinda heavy, but I'll keep it in the studio for a while , if I do get them.
They are on the floor, and been there for a while, so I should be able to get a good price !!
I notice the tuning bracket bolts do not go between the staves-which is a good thing.

Yo TumbaTonio!

I have recently accepted a partial endorsment and have
chosen the Gio Palladiums.

I have gone with 2 x 11.75" Congas and 1 x 14.5" Super Tumba. Also with 3 LP stands.
Is it true that LP stuffed up on the website and catalogue and did not actually make a 12.5" normal Tumba?
I have only seen: super quinto, quinto, conga and super tumba.

I use the super tumba to the left as the lowest pitched drum and tune one of the congas to my right as a tumba.
Huuuuge sound projection with these congas on stands. They rock!
They are pretty heavy though! (I also have 3 Classics) The super tumba takes some practice to tune due to amount of extra lugs, but once you done it a few times, you learn how to eliminate the over tones and get a perfect pitch.
I am very happy with htese drums, and have had some custom extra heavy duty padded soft cases made up to make lugging easier.

you seem very happy about your new drum. i played the Palladium a few times at the Guitar Center and the sound great..what you think about the fiber glass drums.? if you had to get a second pair of drums which ones would you get.? what do you think about the Patato L.P ... i think those particular drums set the standard for all the other fiber-glass drums..

Ok..

Many years ago, when I upgraded to LP drums for the first time, I originally purchased 3 LP Patato congas, quinto, conga and tumba. I had them for 5 days before taking them back to the store and exchanged them for LP Classics.

I was not happy withthe overtones and general soun d of the Patato's. Personal opinion anyway. They are still great drums though, I just didnt like em. This was confirmed again recently when I had to play at a large Festival here in Sydney and 3 Patatos were provided, I simply could not get used to the sound they made compared to my Classics or Palladiums, the wood tone is so much warmer, the Patato's have too much overtones for my liking.

The Giovanni Palladiums are my 2nd set of drums, depending on the gig/amount of lugging/carrying I have to do is which tumbas I use for the gigs I do.

If the lug to the gig from the car is too far or too hard/pain in the a#* then I will use the Classics, if the lug is cool or the gig is high profile, I will use the Palladiums, for my upcoming tour I will be using the Palladiums.

Hey guy..i wish you alot of luck with your music... i have my own band,, latin jazz,, and i hae 3 Patato drums,,, 2 congas and a tumbadora.. i really don't have a use for a quinto.. i just tune one conga high and use the other conga as my middle drum...?

Hola Abakua,

LP does offer a 12.5 tumba in their Gio Palladium series. Maybe at the time you did get yours they runned out of regular tumbas in Australia. Man, if I were you I'll get some custom made flight cases for those babies, soft bags won't do for flying!

The Gio Palledium are great looking and sounding congas. The Super Tumba sounds spectacular...(During an LP gathering here in PR, a couple of people were suggesting the LP people to keep the size of the supertumba but shorten the height for "bomba" purposes).

Comment about the Patato style conga....The have the bigger belly small mouth that produces sharper than unusual tones. Of course, overtones are more than unsual because of that too. However, and take this from me, is the favorite conga and the most popular model made by LP because is great for live performances....The player might listen to some "sounds" but the sound projected is the best...(For those who do not know, LP's latest developments in fiberglass congas, Galaxys and Accents models and even Giovanni's wood, are actually Patato style models with big bellys and small mouths. Seated players don't like them but they are preferred by stand players. Personally, I do have a set of Galaxys and they sound great..)

Interesting! How would have expected something with a bigger mouth but it looks sharp. Definitively, ash wood like in the Gios is more expensive. You say this is coming soon??

Get them! You wont regret it, except for after a killer gig and you need to carry them out of the club/festival/performance...
I recently did a 4 x 1hr set gig (big $$$ offered though), anyway, afterwards I was absoloutly dead! Had to carry the drums one at a time to the car, felt like my arms were going to fall off! hahahaha. The drums are worth it, small price to pay for the sound produced and quality of them. :;):

ABAKUA yeah I hate schlephing the tumbadoras too!! But I guess I've got used to it. Gotta know howand when to drive up at the front/back door at a good time.
Of course it depends on the gig too!! I had a gig downtown SanDiego -Croche's and its the worst place to play 4hr gig. No Parking(pay at that).
It was high profile for Salsa/Jazz etc.and worth the trouble, plus it got me other gigs.
Something about the Pearls though-I think they are calling me ha ha!!
It must be all the influence from JC and Raymond. Its just that no stores carry them. I need to play before a purchase :;):
