Guys,

I'm about to order new comfort rims for my old traditional-rimmed congas, and I want to make sure I get heads that can fit my congas.

I posted earlier on this forum on WHAT head to get, and I got a pretty unanimous support for Fiberskyn heads, given that I wanted to go synthetic and I played a lot of salsa. I didn't like evans (too compressed sound), and the Nuskyns I was told were too light for conga application.

Will Remo Fyberskyns fit on an 11", 11.75" and 12.50" standard trio set of LP classic congas (quinto, conga, tumba)?

By the way, I heard another bongo player playing on a NuSkyn Macho head on his bongo...those things sound like a "placa" (X-Ray cover)! They're awesome...I'm gonna get one for my bongo! Skin for the hembra, always, of course... :)

Can someone get back to me on that Remo Fiberskin question? Thanks.

They are fairly standardised now, 'should' fit.

I was recently asked to do a write up on the REMO skin series by a local distributor, mounting the skin was a bit of work as I chose to mount them on my classics (the skins wont fit my Palladiums). Because my classics are over 15 yrs old I had to force fit the skin, in the end it fit well, sounds ok, but I still prefer genuine skin over the fiberskins.

You shouldnt have a problem, if you want to be 100% sure, why not mount the skin in the store on another classic drum? Or if they dont have one, taqke one of yours in.
Doubt you will haqve a problem though.

Remo Fyberskins are preferred by some because of their overtones. Yes, they do fit the LP Classics. However, be aware that some synthetic heads will not fit perfect but will fit. (If you understand what I mean).

Also, be aware Remo is coming with a a "tucked" Fyberskins, with rings like natural and their own NuSkyns. They are just out in the "streets" but hard to find yet.

NuSkyns are "thinner" heads and sound very good in the macho of the bongo. (Cannot say the same about the hembra. I get a tuning that is too high for the hembrea. I have a set of my bongos with NuSkyns when NuSkyns came out. Personally, I use Fyberskins in both my bongos and congas).

Lots of threads here, in bongos and congas, about Remo Fyberskins and Nu Skyns and even Evans. You should check them out and see our comments about it.

Remo's line could be found in many of the musical instrument stores in Puerto Rico. Where have I seen them? Pure Sound in Bayamon and Music Sound in Caguas. I've seen Fyberskins and NuSkyns moving very fast out of the stores.

Mule skins? Well, I never actually bother finding out. Maybe trying Timbas Ismael in Bayamon.

Conga Head Chart

I found the answer to my questions, and I also appreciate the responses on this board.

The website above has a handy chart for determining what head to buy from Remo for your particular model and make. It seems Remo is making Fiberskyn heads with specific model names for specific congas.

I need to get a quinto and conga heads for LP Classic model, so I need to get the

Classic Quinto m4-1075-lp
Conga m4-1175-lp

Hope the answers here help others too!
