I just got a couple of old school CD's by Grupo Folklorico y Experimental Nuevayorquino. These were recorded in the early 70's and sound really good. It is some great musicians, Chocolate Armenteros, Manny Oquendo, Julito Collazo, Andy Gonzalez, and Jerry Gonzalez among others. More Latin than jazz but really good. I would check out one of their CD's "Lo Dice Todo" if you are interested. Other than that you cannot go wrong with Mongo Santamaria or Ray Barretto. I think especially a live Ray Barretto CD, it really captures the excitement and energy that he created.
