Timba Percussion Congas

Postby apollo » Wed May 26, 2010 11:14 pm

Hey all, I currently play Lp’s and have had just about everything in the Lp line up but now I’m contemplating going with Timbas. A couple of things that I think is pretty cool is that they use Steer for the heads and they have a history with Gon Bops. Does anyone one have any thoughts or input on them…quality or experience?
Thanks,
Apollo.

I've heard they sound great but that they have a tendancey to separate at the staves because of uisgn improperly cured wood.

Buying drums for the skins on them is like buying a car for the tires. Plenty of makers use steer hide, indeed it seems that only the major mass producers (LP, Toca, etc) use anything but steer hide. Skins last for years ... true. It is convenient to find your favored skin on a drum as you consider buying the drum so as to avoid the cost of new skins ($35-$75 per skin) ... true. But, I recommend against setting choice of skin as a major consideration in choosing drums.

Cheers,
BMac

Now that’s what I’m talking about! I like to check out a quality forum before I spend my hard earned cash on something. I don’t think I’ll pursue the Timbas, The fact that some had bad experience with the customer service scares me, been there done that. Life to short! Instead maybe I’ll shoot for my second but not final choice which was the Tycoon Heritage series that I actually had a chance to play. Thanks everyone, I really appreciate all the input and BMac You've got a very good point! I wont consider choosing congas based on just the skins.
Thanks,
Apollo
