I wonder if this going to be a problem in the future. As the rim wil shift a bit to one side, in time, i presume .
I am also thinking of replacing the rims with soft curve rims from LP .
Hey, skinslapper! I'm glad you like the sound of your Bauer's!
But on the subject of rims - I like the classic rims on the Bauer's. In fact that was one of the reasons I chose the Vintage series over Classic. The distance of rim to the body of drum is something that varies from manufacturer to manufacturer, and also depends on body style. I think because of the fat belly that Bauer's have they had to place the rim that way. And it's good, because the rim is out of your hands way when you play and so lessens your chance of hurting your hands. Plus the skins are easier to change with trad rims (although Bauers come with good unbleached skins that should last long).
I don't think the soft curve rim distributes the tension much better than traditional rim. It depends on number of mounting points and the thickness of either rim, and Bauer rims are thick enough. And If you are tuning the drum with equal number of turns at each lug then the rim should not shift sideways.
